Should I carry a tripod during an african safari?

I am planning to go on a safari in Kenia and Tansania. I would like to know if carring a big tripod, is worth the hasle. or if I am better off traveling light. Any other tips on what I should put in my luggage is welcome

1. Yes, it will also come in handy if any of the lions decide to attack you.
2. I wouldn't bother with it if I were you. You'll want to be able to get around without much hassle, and besides, the less you have with you, the better. Take a mosquito net to sleep under. And wear a hat.
3. kenya is spelled with a "y" not an "i", tanzania has a "z not an "s", and how would you set up a tripod in one of those jeep things?
