African safari?

Hi can any one give me some info concerning an african safari.I know different providers will have different setups bit im just trying to get a general indication of what it would be like. Ive looked at some brochures and am wondering about whats involved with camping hotels etc.. I would be going with my girlfriend would it be possible to have a two man tent for the two of us or a double room in hotels.Are they fun and relaxing,i dont mind pitching in but i wanna relax at some stage. Just any general info that would give me an idea of the nature of the tour would be appreciated Thanks Could you wing it and not go with a tour provider.Im not to keen on hostels, are there hotels of any sort big or small in or around the tourist spots or is it a camping or hostel zone only

1. Good &safe campsites r rare. get a good backpacker book u can stay in backpacker lodges from 5-15USD per day.The organized tours do everything for u. but it is a mad rush, up at 5am and race off to the next stop. But u see lots more in a short period
